« on: December 29, 2016, 10:51:08 am »
Volume 18 of the manga hits Japan on January 17th. The TV anime adaptation is planned for 2017

 Earlier in the week, fans pulled the early news that manga magazine Shonen Sirius is set to announce a MAPPA (Yuri!! on Ice, Garo, Ushio and Tora, Rage of Bahamut) produced adaptation of Shoukoku no Altair, a 2007 ongoing from Kotono Katou, a University of Tokyo graduate with a history degree specializing in Turkey. That's now official, and with the announcement, a preview and further details have been published.

Baka Updates describes the series

With Türkiye's council split between the warmongers and the pacifists, Mahmut begins his quest to keep the peace at any cost. I've seen too many manga (including some of my favourites) adapted into lacklustre anime that do them little justice to be overly optimistic.

The manga art has improved marginally since its beginning but I can't say the animation we have seen so far impressed me... Mahmut in particular looks very off-model, Shahra and Louis look plain weird, and Zaganos is too handsome and not threatening enough.

I don't watch anime in general and haven't seen any of MAPPA's series so I can't offer an opinion there, but I do feel that the pacing of SnA is quite unlike most "action" manga so I'm sceptical of how the anime would deal with it. Will parts be cut out? Will there be, lord forbid, fillers?

Lastly I'm a great fan of manga and all my favourite anime are original series/films, so I can't help but be saddened that people will probably watch the SnA anime instead of reading the manga, and therefore not fully appreciate its many wonderful qualities. Even worse, if the anime turns out to be second-rate, it could give newcomers a bad impression of the series in general.

I love the manga and I want it to have the recognition it deserves, and this anime is certainly a step towards that, but any adaptation would have to do it justice for me to show interest. It would have to be extraordinarily good (like, One-Punch Man level good) for me to watch it from start to finish.

I thought they simplified the character designs due to artist's artstyle kinda hard to adapt, but then i saw these;
Seems Mahmut Pasha already apperead as Yurio in YOI

Now lets compare the anime designs:

Ironically, Yurio's design is much closer to Manga Mahmut Pasha
Also mind you, same studio who did YOI also doing Shoukoku no Altair...

Hope all goes well...
