Kingdom / Chapter 492 & 493
« on: October 17, 2016, 05:23:41 pm »
It seems like the flavor of the month for the HSU is the unique abilities it will amass from new recruits. For this reason, I’ve clumped the chapters together. I believe, they go hand in hand, removing the veil of secrecy surrounding the Ten Bows of China. As it turns out, Qin, although unofficial, did have an archer that bested Duke Haku of Wei. Who unbeknownst to us was also acknowledged as one of the Ten Bows. Unfortunately, he died quickly. On the bright side, his two boys have been inducted by the HSU. This should level the playing field against Chu to some degree. On a personal note, I can’t imagine the look on Riboku’s face when he hears of this. So far, it looks like Ten has all the bases covered but I hope she doesn’t overlook the fact that the unit also needs to concentrate on preventive measures, vulnerable strategist included. I hope you can see where I’m going with this. Anyway, I’ve enjoyed the chapters and can sleep better at night knowing the HSU is better equipped to topple opposing forces. As Shin so eloquently put it, more power to them, as they keep moving forward. 8^)

Note: The newly mentioned members of the Ten Bows of China may not be part of the current active members for one reason or another.

Kingdom / Chapter 491
« on: October 10, 2016, 07:13:55 pm »
What a tantalizing chapter this was, eh? King Ouken of Qi confirmed that Qin’s citizens still harbor ill feelings towards Zhao. I believe the feeling is mutual. Many, if not all, of Zhao’s citizens despise Qin, yet I can’t say the same for the younger generation. Anyway, who can blame them? Due to the lasting conflict between these two nations, people on either side will have a tough time setting aside petty differences, prejudices, and so on. Regardless how you look at it, things of this nature are never so lucid.

Meanwhile, in the audience hall, Riboku continues to press on insisting that Zhao will not stand for King Ei Sei’s ludicrous endeavor. Furthermore, adding that Qin’s mere generals are in fact no match for his keen intellect. Clearly, Riboku is expressing, in one way or another that Zhao would rather die before they merge as one. Okay, I get it. But, he ends the rant with some pretty bold claims. This is not the Riboku I’m used to. I expected a poised, methodical Riboku. What happened to deceit, misdirection, and all that jazz he’s well known for. That’s the Riboku I expected to see, guess he left his poker face home. 8^)

Kingdom / Ten Bows of China

Chapter 491 proves the HSU will commence an assessment of recruits. Something most of us have been looking forward to when you consider past events. Fast forward and the closing pages depict two bowmen who linger at the rear of the lot almost as if to seek recognition. Therefore, it’s safe to presume archery is among the many exercises the HSU will focus on to strengthen the unit as a whole, and why I think it’s the perfect opportunity to discuss the Ten Bows of China.

At present, Chu clearly has the advantage when it comes to this area of expertise. When compared, its number of archers exceeds that of any other state. Just as significant is the overall decline of archers regarded with such prestige. Which means that for the time being Chu dominates with archer superiority. First, to exit the stage was Kou Rigen of Wei, whose career abruptly ended when Shin struck him down in the battle of Dakan Plains. Later, in the battle of Bayou, Shin in a fit of fury dispatches Gika of Zhao, the oldest member of this exclusive club ERASED. Good riddance to backstabbers I always say (Pun intended). 8^)

The remaining Ten Bows of China currently reside in the state of Chu. Kyou En, one of Great General Ren Pa’s Four Heavenly kings, and a former resident of Wei and Zhao. Composed, perceptive, and discreet is about all there is to say about him, which is more than enough. The other remarkable archer is Haku Rei. He ranks third place in Chu. But, why third place? Does this mean that Kyou En and someone else secure positions one and two? By the way, that “someone else” is yet to be identified and so the mystery deepens. Which leads to my next point.

Why, Qin, a state with so much talent, has yet to birth a capable archer that’s recognized as a member of the Ten Bows. I find this peculiar, especially when you take into account that Qin can be considered a superpower during the warring states period. A vast nation with so many walks of life, it’s bound to eventually inherit someone worthy of being perceived as a Ten Bow, right? So, why have we not seen archers of this caliber among the ranks of Qin’s armies?

Kingdom / Chapter 490
« on: September 29, 2016, 02:39:32 pm »
Pretty much a straightforward chapter, or is it? Is there more behind Riboku’s speech, and is there an ulterior motive for visiting Kanyou, especially now? I can’t believe he had the gull to sell King Ei Sei a peace treaty. That time has long past. Besides, a peace treaty among all seven states is not a lasting arrangement, as King Ei Sei forcefully pointed out. Honestly, I was not at all surprised with Riboku, I expected more from him. At this point, Qin has the upper hand and Riboku knows this. However, I’m still not convinced that this was his only purpose for visiting Kanyou. We all know just how devious he can be. Anyway, I’m glad King Ei Sei stuck to his guns because Riboku can’t be trusted. 8^)

Kingdom / Six Great Generals of Qin
« on: September 16, 2016, 12:36:29 pm »
It’s no secret that King Sho the 29th king of Qin devised a mechanism to wage war over China. A ravenous King, whose underlying intent, was to gain control of neighboring states through sheer force and intimidation. The question is not whether King Ei Sei will reinstate this system; instead, which candidate will soon become one of its new members. Who among Qin should fill that role? Is it Great General Mou Bu? Who currently holds the distinguished title of the strongest warrior in all of China? Maybe Great General Tou, the soldier that served at Ou Ki’s side for most of his career. Then, there’s General Ou Sen. A mysterious general that only prefers battles he can win. And, the infamous General Kan Ki. A genius with no moral compass. Let’s not forget Yo Tan Wa, the mysterious king of the Qin Mountain Tribes. There are also commanders from their respective army’s capable of filling such a role as well. Last but not least, the young, brave, and bold, Shin, Mou Ten, Ou Hon, and Kyou Kai. Which six will it be?

Kingdom / Kyou Kai #1 Assassin in all Seven Kingdoms!
« on: September 15, 2016, 02:39:47 pm »
Kyou Kai is one of the many favorite characters in Kingdom, a young and beautiful woman with monstrous abilities to boot. She says very little but when she does, it’s straight to the point. So what’s happening with Kyou Kai? Not sure if anyone else has noticed but lately, I’ve seen a shift with her character to be precise with her personality. Do you remember the time she plunged into Ryuu Tou’s camp, when one of her soldiers minutes before grabbed her arm, I immediately thought she would take his head off instead she reasoned with him. To make matters worse, she actually had dialogue with Ryuu Tou before cutting him down. This is not a trait of an assassin. Has she gone soft? It’s clear the lieutenant has begun to show a warm side never seen before. Has Kyou Kai finally cut loose all ties with her past as an assassin? And, will this affect future missions?

Kingdom / Queen Mother’s Name?
« on: September 15, 2016, 12:42:51 pm »
The Queen Mother, King Ei Sei’s mom is an important figure in Kingdom yet we still have no mention of her real name. Back, way back in chapter 186, Ryo Fui, her ex-lover nicknames or calls her by an alias. Do you know what this is? And, does the name bear any special meaning? Another important fact is that the Queen is from Kantan the royal capital of the state of Zhao. 8^)

Kingdom / Wei’s Eight Finger Strategists
« on: September 15, 2016, 11:57:37 am »
Besides Hyou Ki, the strategist that was shamefully bested by young Ka Ryo Ten and is undoubtedly still alive, we have yet to see whom else in Wei bears this title. Jun Sou, Gai Mou’s strategist, unfortunately is not one of the Eight Finger Strategists. What does “Eight Finger Strategist” mean? Is it literal?

Kingdom / General Kan Ki and his Band of Misfits
« on: September 15, 2016, 11:23:57 am »
I'm actually surprised that we don't have more documentation about Kan Ki's past. When this arc began, I thought to myself, here’s an opportunity to get a flashback, especially why his character is so dark, bitter, and mysterious. He's such an important figure in Kingdom and his contributions thus far move King Ei Sei closer to his goal. His lieutenants, Rai Do, Koku Ou, Ma Ron, and Chuu Ki as well as his commanders Zenou and Ogiko, all seem so interesting in their own right. Then, there's Ring Yoku, the military officer that acts as his administrative assistant. This one in particular bears the look of joker, but can't tolerate the Saki clan's methods of torture. What's wrong with this picture? Kan Ki on the other hand seems completely comfortable with the whole thing, what a ghoul. Point is, there are so many clans under General Kan Ki’s command, and yet all we have is pure speculation and very little concrete information about them coming together. Which begs the question, does General Kan Ki adhere to the same method as General Ou Sen in order to attain soldiers? We know that General Ou Sen gives his enemy/opposition a choice when captured, live under his total command or die. Not a very appealing ultimatum but they get the point quickly. What are your thoughts on the matter? 8^)

Kingdom / Chapter 489
« on: September 14, 2016, 05:57:39 pm »
The current chapter solidifies that King Ouken is willing to indirectly assist Qin by not interfering with its takeover of neighboring states. Basically, Qi has surrendered peacefully to avoid bloodshed. So, can Qi, officially be considered the first state taken under control by Qin? And, can it be kept a secret for long. I think it’s only a matter of time before Riboku and the other states realize what is going on. And yet, Riboku may already have an indication about King Ouken's motive for being there, considering that this is not the first time he has betrayed the other kingdoms. During the coalition invasion, Qi did the same. I mean, why else would King Ouken personally venture to Qin, especially now that it hasn't declared war with Qi. Riboku isn’t going to fall for the same thing again. I think he will alert the surrounding states just in time to make the necessary preparations against Qin. What do you think? 8^)
